Obersendling: Former Siemensland
Even if the global Siemens corporation has largely left the district - Obersendling is “Siemensland”. Industrial companies such as Siemens and many other commercial operations have settled at the edge of the Isar river for many decades. For a long time, Obersendling was the picture of a typical mixed quarter including business premises and employee housing. Munich's first housing estate with high-rise buildings was built for the ‘Siemensians’. Since Siemens withdrew from Obersendling, the district has undergone a fascinating change; modern residential areas are being created and former industrial areas are being revitalized for new uses. These are all in the vicinity of the Isar, with fast metro connections to the city centre. Today, Obersendling is a popular residential area, where the architectural traces of its industrial past are still apparent.
