Südseite City District is a landmark in Munich's cityscape.
Südseite City District
When the new city quarter was being planned on this former 20-hectare Siemens works site, the Munich City Design Commission became a key stakeholder in the decision-making. This important voluntary body is actively involved whenever a prominent location, and an external impact on the cityscape, requires special attention. Their involvement brought value to aesthetic and homely goals. The residential district, which was completed in 2014, consists of five 16-storey, high-rise residential buildings in the middle of a large green space, bordered by a five-storey perimeter development. Approximately 2,300 people live on the South Side. Out of the 1,000 apartments built here, 300 were designated for social housing. 1,000 people also work here in the day care centres, primary school, medical centre, care centre, offices, shops and businesses.
