Bungalows at the Olympiadorf
In order to follow the idea of sustainability, the male athletes' part of Olympiadorf was planned to be a residential area as it is today. The Olympiadorf for female athletes, a bungalow complex, has been used for student housing. The bungalows were torn down between 2007 and 2010 and then rebuilt in the same making but by considering something that can be described as critical monument conservation. Werner Wirsing, the architect of the original bungalows, oversaw the rebuilding in cooperation with new architects Bogevischs Buero. By reducing the buildings' width by a small dimension, now 1,052 bungalows are available instead of just 800 before. Residents can still paint the bungalow’s frontage as they like.
