The building complex, which consists of a Catholic and a Lutheran church under the same roof, was planned by local architect collective Christ & Karg representing the first oecumenical church center in Bavaria. It is designed in the spirit of the Olympic Games of 1972: bright, open and democratic. The roof is carried by twelve pillars which represent the twelve Apostles. For bridging the span between the pillars the main roof structure was built in a space framework designed by German company Mero, typical for industrial buildings at that time. During the Olympic Games in 1972 Christian as well as Jewish and Islamic services in 14 different languages were repeatedly held here.
