From Oberland, the Hachinger River flows through Perlach. Originally the river ran west past the Ostpark. Today it is diverted through the park, above ground in a concrete trough, disappearing underground at Michaelibad. In Ostpark, the brook’s winding course, large boulders and dense vegetation on the banks give the impression of a natural stream. These areas are largely left to their own devices and serve as important habitats for birds and small animals. A further restoration of the stream is planned. The natural landscape of the inner-city is charted by well-planned pathways to and along the stream.
